JACKSON Wyo. — Wyoming leads the way in the USA when it comes to gender equality. Yes, we are working on the gender wage gap like everyone else, but truth be told, the Equality State has always championed women’s rights.
Wyoming just marked 150 years of women’s suffrage.
And the town of Jackson has led the way by example since the early 20th Century. Jackson’s first all-female town council included a woman for every municipal position—mayor, town council, treasurer, town clerk, health officer, and marshal. This so-called Petticoat Rule has a spirit that continues today with recognition of women entrepreneurs.
January’s Business Over Breakfast, hosted by the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, will spotlight several ladies who have made a name for themselves in the valley.
Speaking at the event will be some of Jackson’s most influential women in business, including Clarene Law of Town Square Inn’s, Ruth Ann Petroff of Snake River Roasting, Julie Guttormson owner of VIM, Nicole Garrett of PRESeNT, and Monay Olson of The Shine Group.
Jen Simon, a member of the Wyoming Council for Women, will moderate the discussion and encourage formal and informal thought-provoking dialogue. Simon works as Senior Policy Advisor to Equality State Policy Center and serves to address fair policymaking in Wyoming through The Gender Lens Project.
“To kick off 2020, we want to recognize the Women’s Suffrage Movement in Wyoming by listening to Jackson women who have advanced the business environment, each with their own approach and commitment,” said Anna Olson, Chamber of Commerce CEO. “Chamber of Commerce Board Chair, Kris Shean, owner of Häagen Dazs, has invited an all-star panel to share their visions, fears, inspirations and stories. All are welcome; all will be inspired.” Olson added.
The event aims to provide a unique networking opportunity for real women to share their stories, perspectives, and experiences. Start the new year off with a step towards inspiration!
