JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jenny Lake Rangers shared an Instagram post on Monday, July 7, with a warning to rock climbers heading to Blacktail Butte.

“!!!WARNING!!!” the post reads. “Potentially unsafe glue-in bolts located at the Lower Blacktail Butte wall.”

According to the post, on Monday, the climbing rangers found multiple bolts on multiple routes that were loose, wiggling and showing signs of wear on the epoxy. The bolts were found on the following routes: Inconceivable (5.11a), bolt four; Do the Right Thing (5.11c/d), bolts five and six; and Time Flies When You’re Alive/Higher Education, top access bolts.

“Proceed with extreme caution when climbing at this wall until a more thorough investigation of the issue can be conducted,” the post reads.

The Jenny Lake Rangers are Grand Teton National Park’s elite team of search and rescue professionals. The staff is made up of seven permanent and 12 seasonal climbing rangers.
