JACKSON, Wyo. — Chicago and Shanghai. Rome and Paris. Jackson and Hueyotlipan?

Jackson’s Town Council decreed that Jackson’s new sister city is Hueyotlipan in Tlaxcala, Mexico. Hueyotlipan replaces the city of Tlaxcala as Jackson’s sister city, a relationship established in 2021 that has since fizzled due to turnover in that city’s local leadership.

The resolution was adopted by Town Council on Monday, March 4. Hueyotlipan is one of the municipalities in the state of Tlaxcala, from which many newer Jacksonites have emigrated. The town is similarly an inland, mountainous area close to national parks. Its government officials expressed interest in nourishing a mutual sister city relationship with Jackson, according to the proposal.

The new partnership will be bolstered by formal cultural exchanges, including video calls and “further programs and opportunities to learn from one another and gain perspective about what is happening in our towns on the local level,” according to the proposal.

Hueyotlipan is home to roughly 15,000 residents, as of the 2020 census.
