Jackson seniors making the most out of life while physical distancing

JACKSON, Wyo. — Staying at home during COVID-19 doesn’t have to mean sitting around without anything to do. Just ask the seniors at the Legacy Lodge, who are making the most of every day with plenty of activities to keep them going.

While Legacy Lodge is no longer conducting in-person group activities due to COVID-19 precautions, they are supporting plenty of other physical-distancing activities to keep their residents engaged.

Last Sunday, the Easter Bunny made a visit to Legacy Lodge and surprised residents with Easter egg baskets. Residents also participated in Easter crafts in their apartments.

In addition, Legacy Lodge residents are participating in the #chasetherainbow project, in which they are cutting out flowers in different colors to make rainbows on their windows. Residents are joining this global movement to help remind themselves and passersby that beauty comes after a storm.

Legacy Lodge is using technology as a way for residents to connect with the outside world as well, including live streaming of church services, video chats with family members and looking through Facebook albums of family pictures.

There are plenty of ongoing activities away from the computer screens as well, including walking outside and sitting on the back patio, taking individualized scenic bus drives around the valley, and participating in a virtual book club. Others are knitting and one resident is even sewing masks for staff and residents!

Legacy Lodge is also running an ice cream cart, popcorn cart and happy hour cart that delivers apartment to apartment. In addition, the Lodge’s Pet Partners are visiting from outside and walking their dogs around the building for residents to see.

“The things (Legacy Lodge) is doing, like the surprise Easter Bunny visit and the ice cream cart are nice and make this easier,” said one of Legacy Lodge’s residents.

What are some of the other ways in which Legacy Lodge is keeping their members engaged? Residents are also participating in journal writing, themed crossword games and are doing pen pals with the Jackson Hole Middle School sixth grade class.
