A message from Jackson Hole Public Art

JACKSON, Wyo. — St. John’s Health Foundation and Jackson Hole Public Art are pleased to announce a national call for artists to participate in a curated art database for St. John’s Health facilities. This opportunity invites artists to submit original artworks that foster a sense of calm, comfort, and healing within healthcare environments.

The registry will serve as a resource for selecting artwork to be displayed throughout St. John’s Health facilities. Selected artists whose work is chosen for temporary display will receive a $500 stipend. Artwork will remain on display for an initial term of one year, with the option for renewal upon mutual agreement.

Artists working in all mediums are encouraged to apply. Both 2D and 3D works will be
considered. The selection committee is seeking artwork that contributes positively to patient, family, and staff experiences by creating welcoming and restorative spaces dedicated to care.

St. John’s Health Foundation has adopted “Evidence Based Art Selection” criteria to guide the review process. Preferred artwork themes include:

  • Nature imagery depicting healthy, fresh plants and flowers.
  • Landscapes with visual depth and open foregrounds.
  • Calming, natural, verdant color palettes.
  • Conceptual designs inspired by wind, water, and air.
  • Wildlife portrayed in good health or social groupings.
  • Figurative artwork featuring smiling faces and leisurely interactions.

Who Should Apply

This is a national call for artists. Preference may be given to regional artists familiar with the cultural and natural landscape of the Mountain West. Public art or healthcare art experience is not required.

Media/Style/Size

Artists may submit up to 10 original works for consideration. Reproductions will not be accepted. Submitted works should be appropriate for a healthcare setting and suitable for temporary installation within public and clinical environments.

Artists selected from the registry will enter into a formal agreement with St. John’s Health Foundation prior to final artwork placement or acquisition. Agreements may include artwork specifications, installation requirements, insurance, liability, maintenance expectations, timeline, and compensation details.
