CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Lady Moose ice hockey team claimed the state title for the third year in a row, last weekend in Cheyenne.
The varsity team was undefeated with a 3-2 victory Friday over the Gillette Grizzlies. On Saturday they beat the Sheridan Hawks 8-1.
The team then went on to play the Cody Ice Cats on Sunday.
The Cody Ice Cats had a perfect season, winning all 20 of their games in the regular season play until they met with the Jackson Lady Moose in the championship game. By the end of the third period, the two teams were tied 1-1 with a goal scored by Cody’s Kamden Harris, and Jackson’s Kaity Yarrow. The third period was the clincher with Jackson’s August Otto going on to score two more goals, cinching the win for the Lady Moose.
The team is made up of one senior, eight juniors, one sophomore, two freshmen, and six eighth-grade students.
The coaching cadre includes head Coach TJ Thomas, assisted by Matt Somers, Paige Asbell, and Emma Sollitt.
The U19 Lady Moose is part of Jackson Youth Hockey. It’s the mission of the club to provide a meaningful opportunity for children to experience the great game of hockey and develop their skating skills and hockey skills to the best of their ability while instilling the importance of sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork. Jackson Youth Hockey enrolled 286 players for the 2020-2021 season. The club is open to boys and girls ages 4 to 18 and is a member of the Wyoming Amateur Hockey Association and part of the Northern Plains District of USA Hockey.
