JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Fire/EMS is inviting the public to join them next Friday, Jan. 24, at noon in the Fire Station 1 training room for “Chat with the Fire Chiefs,” an event focused on wildfire preparedness, mitigation and community readiness.

According to a Teton County press release, firefighters are continuing to battle wildfires that have devastated the communities in and around Los Angeles, California. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS wants to make sure our community’s questions and concerns are being answered regarding Teton County’s wildfire protocol.

“Our hearts go out to those impacted by the fires in California,” said Fire Chief Moyer in the press release. “The loss of life and property is truly devastating. It is hard to watch, especially when we ourselves live in a wildfire-prone community. While we can’t always prevent wildfires from happening, we can work collectively to build a community that is wildfire adaptive, reducing our risk of wildfire damage.”

The public is invited to join Moyer, Deputy Fire Chief Brian Coe, Fire Marshal Raymond Lane, Wildfire Mitigation Coordinator Bobbi Clauson, Teton County Emergency Management Coordinator Rich Ochs and others at 60 E Pearl Street in downtown Jackson (located behind Fire Station 1 in the alley).

Discussions will include Teton County’s Wildfire Community Protection Plan, the recently updated Wildfire-Urban Interface (WUI) boundaries, Teton_WY Alerts by Everbridge public notification system, family preparedness plans, creating defensible spaces and more, Teton County writes. Community members are encouraged to ask questions and concerns.

The event will also be streamed via Microsoft Teams and can be accessed here. Light refreshments will also be provided.
