JACKSON, Wyo. — The Jackson Hole Airport Board has scheduled the upcoming runway reconstruction for the spring of 2022. The dates for the project were decided on Nov. 4, during a Special Meeting.

“We have been anticipating a runway project for a number of years and it is due for a full reconstruction,” said Jerry Blann, President of the Jackson Hole Airport Board. The airport will be closed to both airline and general aviation operations from April through June of 2022.

Though considered to be the valley’s “off-season” with lower numbers of tourists, the area still receives a lot of airline travelers during the months of April, May, and June. Sourcing data prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, 906 flights landed at the Jackson Hole Airport in April, May, and June of 2019. 82,897 passengers boarded flights at the Jackson Hole airport during these three months, and 91,302 arrived in Jackson Hole.

The project is budgeted at $44 million, with most of the funding coming from grants by the Federal Aviation Administration and the State of Wyoming Division of Aeronautics. No local sales or property tax money will be used for the project.

The Board also gave the go-ahead to proceed with initial designs for two terminal improvement projects, as well as updates to the security screening checkpoint and the restaurant area. The projects inside the Airport are slated to be completed while the runaway is being reconstructed.

“While the runway is being reconstructed it has created a potential opportunity to complete two important terminal projects while the runway is closed,” said Blann.
