JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson’s community Pumpkin Sale and Fall Festival celebrates its 47th year on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Jackson Elementary School’s (JES) Davey Field.
Over 500 people came out last year to enjoy what has become a festival-like event, according to JES’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO). Historically, the pumpkin sale was located on the Town Square. Four years ago, the pumpkin sale moved to JES’s green field to accommodate growing community engagement and more accessible parking.
The pumpkin sale continues to be a fundraiser organized by the PTO Board to help fund classroom upgrades, field trips and educational programming. Last year’s sale raised over $12,000, which was a new record, according to JES. The sale’s revenue provided educational program grants for teachers, staff and students. The PTO said that they hope to raise the same amount this Saturday.
“We love this annual event so much,” PTO Vice President Shauna Lockhart told Buckrail. “It’s great to see so many families in our community come together to celebrate the fall season and support our local school.”
Parents and children are invited to walk around the patch to choose their favorite pumpkin to carve and display. A wide assortment of pumpkins will be available, including traditional, white and bumpy knuckleheads. The pumpkins are sourced through Smith’s from a local Idaho farm, and once all the gourds arrive, volunteers will form a huge conveyor belt to pass pumpkins from the delivery truck to JES’s grassy field. About 1,500 pumpkins will be sold on a first come, first serve basis and carving kits will be available.
Participants can also enjoy the food trucks, bouncy house, face painting and bake sale. A western themed photo booth will be set out in front of hay bales so families can take home a photos.
“The weather this Saturday looks sunny and brisk — a perfect day to come out and celebrate this beautiful season,” Lockhart said.
The community is invited to attend the event. There is no entrance fee.
