JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Friday’s gridiron matchup was a meeting of two teams headed in different directions. The suddenly streaking Jackson Broncs won their fifth straight, 33-23 over the Wolves of Green River who dropped homecoming for their fourth consecutive defeat.
Sloppy play on behalf of the Orange-and-Black made the final score appear closer than it was. One Jackson pass was picked off in the end zone in the first half. The Broncs also let a 33-10 lead nearly evaporate after Green River recovered two onside kicks, converted to touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
For the Broncs, it was again their top-rated rushing offense that led the way. The tandem of Jeydon Cox and Kirby Castagno combined to rush for four touchdowns enroute to the victory. It was sweet revenge for the Broncs who remember the 62-44 drubbing they received from Green River last year.
Jackson is now 5-1 (2-0) but they’ll have to clean up their game next week for homecoming against bitter rivals Star Valley Braves. The Braves are in a rebuilding year but still ever dangerous.
The Braves dropped two of their first three games but have rattled off three straight wins since, outscoring their opponents 107-7 with two shutouts.
Common opponents include only Green River. The Braves blasted the Wolves 31-0 two weeks ago in Afton while the Broncs just beat Green River by 10. Both teams are 2-0 in conference.
