JACKSON, Wyo. — While snow and cold temperatures have returned on Tuesday, the town of Jackson weather station broke its daily record high temperature on Monday afternoon and tied a record “warm low temperature” on Tuesday morning prior to a cold front that arrived late Tuesday morning.
Jackson set a new record high of 47 degrees on Monday afternoon, breaking the old record for December 21 of 46 set in 1941.
During the 24-hour period from 9 a.m. on Monday morning through 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, the low temperature in Jackson only dropped to 37 degrees, which tied a record warm low temperature for December 22. The original record of 37 degrees was set in 2005.
The temperature in Jackson remained in the low 40s through Tuesday morning before a cold front arrived, leading to an impressive daytime temperature drop. At 9:30 a.m., the temperature in Jackson was 40 degrees, but then fell to 30 degrees by 11 a.m. and to 27 degrees by noon.
As of 3 p.m. Tuesday, the temperature in Jackson is only 22 degrees and moderate to heavy snow has been falling ever since the cold front arrived, reminding us that it is winter after all despite Monday’s warmth.
Significant melting early this week followed by the rapid cool down on Tuesday is resulting in extremely icy conditions on the roads and sidewalks, so use extra caution.
