JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Grizzly 610, presumed dead for more than two years, has been spotted. We think.
A 2009 cub of the Grand dame herself—399—griz 610 hasn’t been seen since she herself weaned her two cubs in May 2017.
Jackson Hole Ecotour Adventures guide Chelse Wren caught sight of a large sow with two cubs-of-the-year, known as COYs, and there is every reason to believe it is 610. The timing would be right. The sow would have been looking to breed in 2017 but may not have met a partner until last year.
“Pretty exciting sighting of a bear that hasn’t been seen for two years with cubs of the year,” said JH Ecotour Adventures naturalist John Metten. “We aren’t 100% that it’s 610 after looking at the video but we’re not sure who else it could be. Great sighting either way.”
