JACKSON, Wyo. — An injured mountain biker was rescued by Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) Tuesday, Aug. 8 after sustaining injuries following a mountain bike crash on Phillips Canyon Trail, the agency announced Wednesday.

The patient used the BackcountrySOS app to alert Teton County Dispatch, which then called TCSAR.

According to TCSAR, the local man in his 60s crashed his mountain bike while crossing a log bridge feature over the creek and sustained severe injuries that prevented him from riding or walking out of the backcountry. TCSAR responded from the trailhead at Fish Creek Road and transported the patient via wheeled litter down the trail to a waiting ambulance.

BackcountrySOS is a free smartphone app that provides local dispatch with your exact location and the nature of the emergency. Developed by the TCSAR Foundation, it works with minimal cell service where voice calls are not possible and is available in 12 counties across the Intermountain West. This is the second mountain bike rescue in recent weeks. On July 30, a local man was helped off Ferrin’s Trail by TCSAR after sustaining a lower leg injury.
