In her eyes: meet local artist Shannon Marie Schacht

Jackson Hole is famed for many things: incredible Teton views, abundant wildlife, endless outdoor activities. It’s also home to a plethora of wonderfully unique art.

Shannon Marie Schacht has been turning heads in the art community with her signature style of wildlife portraits. These are much more than your typical animal paintings. Shannon steps out of the box to create totally original pieces.

As a self taught artist, Shannon has been drawing ever since she was a little girl. She started receiving art awards in kindergarten.

“The two things that I was absolutely passionate about as a kid: art and animals. And that hasn’t really changed over the years.”Shannon Marie Moose

Eventually Shannon decided to put down the pencils and pick up a paint brush, which was completely new territory for her.

“I had no idea how to start, so I signed up for a beginners painting class at the Art Association here in Jackson just to see if I could even hold a paint brush correctly” Shannon laughs. She fell in love with using acrylic paints and hasn’t looked back since.

From that point on her own techniques have evolved with a lot of practice, patience, and hard work.

Her love for fine details and texture is what brings her paintings to life. Shannon’s artwork reflects her deep connection with animals, and she works hard at creating these visions with each brush stroke.

Whether she is painting a moose or a custom pet portrait, her heart and soul goes into each piece. What makes Shannon’s work stand out is her extraordinary attention to detail, right down to the reflections in the eyes.

“Eyes are my favorite elements to paint, which is the focal point of my work. I try to create pieces that will make you stop and stare into their eyes, into their soul. I think its what gives us that personal connection with a particular piece of art. Not just being able to see it, but feel it on a deeper level.”

Shannon is thankful for the love and support this community has shown her over the years, which is why she enjoys giving back by donating paintings to some of the local charities and organizations such as the Tuxes & Tails Gala, Animal Adoption Center,  Teton Raptor Center, The WhoDunnit, & The Art of Love Plate Auction.

“This community is truly special to me and I am so grateful to be able to contribute as much as I can.”

You will find collections of Shannon’s work here in Jackson at The Grand Fine Art Gallery and Park City Fine Art Gallery in Utah. You can also see some of her latest pieces at upcoming events such as the Members Exhibit & the WhoDunnit for the Art Association, the Plein Air Fest at the National Museum Of Wildlife Art and the Art Of Love Plate Auction for Community Entry Services.
