TETON COUNTY, Ida. — A section of neighborhood in Tetonia was on high alert for several hours today after the Teton County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook that they were responding to a “disturbance” and encouraged residents to “remain indoors until further notice.”
The disturbance was reported at approximately 7:50 a.m. this morning. The caller requested a Sheriff’s Deputy respond to 6276 S 1st St. in Tetonia for a male subject who may have been under the influence of methamphetamine and may also possess an AR-15 rifle.
The man was identified as 35-year-old Adrian Figueroa-Rodriguez, a Tetonia resident.
The Sheriff’s Office arrived in the area shortly after the report to make contact with the Figueroa at the door of the residence. Figueroa became uncooperative and barricaded himself inside the residence. The subject’s mother, Guadalupe Figueroa, who lives with him at the residence, soon exited the home safely and met with deputies.
While investigating, the Sheriff’s Office determined that an aggravated assault had occurred at the residence earlier that morning. Due to safety concerns, Sheriff Tony Liford called the Sheriff’s Special Response Team (SSRT) for help. The SSRT who arrived and began negotiating with Figueroa to leave the home.
Officers searched the property and found an AR-15 rifle in a structure adjacent to the house.
When Figueroa did not cooperate with the negotiations team, the SSRT team entered the residence and was able to take him into custody without further incident.
Figueroa is currently facing charges of Felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and may face other charges pending further investigation.
The SSRT consists of members of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, St. Anthony Police Department, and Madison County Fire Department. The Idaho State Police also assisted.
