JACKSON, Wyo. — A 6.5 magnitude earthquake rattled central Idaho, and its tremors could be felt all the way in Jackson.

The earthquake’s epicenter was about 72 kilometers west of Challis, Idaho, or about 45 miles. According to USGS, it was caused by a strike slip faulting within the shallow crust of the North America plate.

The impact map shows the quake shook Bozeman, parts of western Wyoming, and much of Idaho. It struck at abut 5:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 31.
