Tips on how to coexist with bears Grizzly bear Bears Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

WYOMING – The Cody area has been a hotbed for grizzly activity this summer and early fall. Several grizzly bears have been removed and relocated from the area this summer.

According to a story in the Cody Enterprise, wildlife managers are investigating the shooting of a grizzly bear by a hunting guide earlier this week.

The increased grizzly activity comes at a sensitive time. A federal judge put the species back under federal protection last week, wiping out a planned hunt of the bear this fall in both Wyoming and Idaho.

A local hunting guide was also killed in a grizzly bear mauling last month.

Proponents of delisting the grizzly point to the incidents as proof the species has not only recovered but may be overpopulated in some areas. Others contend the number of incidents fluctuate year to year.
