JACKSON, Wyo. — Election Day is around the corner and Buckrail is sharing the ins and outs of how to vote. The last day to vote for the primary is on Tuesday, August 20. The polls open at 7 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m.

There are multiple ways to vote during the primary: by mail, at the absentee polling site or on Election Day.

According to the county, the easiest way to register to vote is to stop by the Teton County Clerk’s office at 200 S. Willow Street, Jackson. For those wanting to check their voter registration, call or visit the Administration Building.

When voting in person, Wyoming residents are required to show an acceptable form of photo identification. Voters are no longer able to change their party affiliation for the primary due to the passage of House Bill 103, which requires Wyoming residents to affiliate with their political party before candidates are announced.

Any of the following photo identification documents will be accepted to vote:

  • WY Driver’s License or ID Card
  • Tribal ID Card
  • U.S. Passport
  • U.S. Military Card
  • Valid Wyoming Concealed Firearm Permit
  • DL or ID Card from Another State
  • University of Wyoming Student ID
  • Wyoming Community College Student ID
  • Wyoming Public School Student ID
  • Valid Medicare Insurance Card
  • Valid Medicaid Insurance Card

Residents can also obtain a free Wyoming Identification Card from the local Driver Services office.

According to Teton County Clerk Maureen Murphy, as of Wednesday, August 14, Teton County has received 201 absentee ballots and 544 in-person early votes.

The absentee polling place is located in the basement of the Teton County Administration Building, which is open Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can also stop by the absentee polling site to pick up a ballot and take it home. An absentee ballot request form needs to be filled out in order to pick up a ballot. The form can be filled out in advance or in person when voting. All qualified electors wishing to vote in-person can vote at the absentee polling site.

The absentee polling site is not open on Election Day. Voters must go to a designated Vote Center on Election Day. According to Teton County, the last day to drop off an absentee ballot is at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19.

All absentee ballots must be received in the Clerk’s Office by 7 p.m. on the day of the Election to be counted. A sample ballot is available here.
