JACKSON, Wyo. — Summer in Jackson Hole, while welcomed after the long winter, is bringing lots of mosquitoes along with the sunshine. Teton County Weed and Pest (TCWP) is recommending “The 7 D’s of Mosquito Prevention” for all recreationists:
- Drain standing water around ranches and homes that can breed mosquitoes.
- Dawn and dusk are when mosquitoes are most active. Avoid being outside during these times.
- Dress appropriately to avoid bites such as light-colored and loose-fitting long sleeves and pants. Wide brimmed hats with mosquito netting are a great option too.
- Defend against mosquito bites by using an effective, EPA-registered repellent.
- Door and window screens should be in good condition to prevent mosquitoes from coming inside.
- District mosquito services are available at no cost to residents. Contact TCWP with a mosquito problem and/or have standing water on property.
Grand Teton National Park is reminding people that mosquitoes are important to the ecosystem and help pollinate plants that make the area beautiful.
