High School hockey team tearing it up at Nationals

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The Jackson Hole High School Moose hockey team is currently 2-0 in pool play at the High School National Tournament in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Moose swamped Wando (South Carolina) 8-2 on Thursday night in the tournament opener. After spotting Wando the first goal in less than 2 minutes of the start, Jackson scored the next 6 goals with Ryan Welch notching a hat trick. Canyon Bupp, Will Chapman, Harrison Sauter, Rowan Wuerdeman, and James Doyle added goals of their enroute to the romp. Nils Huot was in goal for the Moose. He stopped 34 of 36 shots by Wando.

On Friday, March 31, the Moose blitzed a team from Arkansas, 6-2, to guarantee Jackson at least a trip to the quarterfinals on Sunday. Ryan Welch led the Moose with another hat trick and an assist. James Doyle added 2 goals of his own with 2 assists. Will Chapman also had a goal. Rowan Reese was in net for the victory, stopping 19 of 21 shots.

The two victories earn Jackson a showdown with Missoula today at 3 pm.

Missoula looked dominant on opening day against Arkansas, defeating them by a score of 10-0. Missoula struggled a bit with Wando, however, in their second game of the tourny. Neither team was able to light the lamp until the third period. Missoula got the win, 2-1, behind their standout John Bannon.
