JACKSON, Wyo. — Three local nonprofits known together as the Champions for Children have established a collaborative effort to ensure the community’s young children have every resource to thrive academically, emotionally and socially.

Early childhood is a time when people are at their most receptive and their most vulnerable. Ensuring the children of this community grow into successful, productive society members relies on the quality of these formative years. Thankfully, there are heroes in the community guiding early learners every step of the way, and you can help them to overcome the obstacles that can stand in their path.

Champions for Children includes the Teton Literacy Center, The Children’s Learning Center and the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum, and recognizes the biggest childrens’ champions are the early childhood educators that work to bring out the best in our young children. Their heroic efforts to educate, engage and excite children make them essential members of society. Their superpowers of creativity and patience inspire young minds to reach their full potential.

These three organizations help children develop social skills, emotional intelligence and a love of learning that will benefit them throughout their entire lives.

“If you want to spend your life learning, laughing and having fun with a bunch of kids, you should go into education.”

“If you want to spend your life learning, laughing and having fun with a bunch of kids, you should go into education…it’s the best job in the world,” says Anna Luhrman from the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum.

Early childhood educators have an immeasurable positive impact through the many critical hours spent with the youngest learners during the most vital time of their development. Incorporating guided play into their lessons, they consistently come up with new and innovative ways to teach children, using art, music, storytelling and outdoor enrichment. They encourage children to explore and experiment by creating lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate, adapting their teaching methods to meet the needs of each child.

Early childhood educators are frequently overlooked, overworked and underpaid, going above and beyond to provide the absolute best for children even when that means providing learning materials and supplies out of their own pockets or working late nights and early mornings outside of their salaried hours.

These educators love what they do, but they need your help to continue to do it at the highest level.

You can help by spreading awareness about the resounding impact of early education and rally for the implementation of policies to increase educators’ access to resources, all of which will encourage more talented and passionate people to enter the early education career field.
