DUBOIS, Wyo. — The National Museum of Military Vehicles will host a free presentation by Hal Burke, founder of Victory & Valor Memories, about the five Sullivan brothers, who tragically lost their lives together on the USS Juneau during World War II.

The five Sullivans, from Waterloo, Iowa, were all killed in action, which the U.S. Navy’s History and Heritage Command calls the biggest blow to any one family in U.S. wartime history. Burke himself served in the Navy from 1961-1967, on Fletcher Class Destroyers, the USS Prichett DD-561 and USS The Sullivans DD-537 (1964), as well as the Essex Class Aircraft Carrier USS Lake Champlain CVS-39 (1965). In his presentation, he shares the fascinating experiences from his life’s journey, and he is in the process of writing a novel about veterans who have shared with him their inspirational and memorable stories.

This captivating event will be held at the museum on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 5:30 p.m. Burke will also discuss the lasting impact of their story on naval history and its intriguing link to Alfred Eisenstaedt’s iconic V-J Day “Kissing Sailor” photo, which features George Mendonsa, a hero from the USS The Sullivans DD-537.

This event is a profound opportunity to dive into the history of “The Greatest Generation” and pay tribute to the service and sacrifices of these remarkable individuals. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session. Supper will be available for purchase in The Canteen, the museum’s onsite restaurant. Don’t miss this chance to connect with history and honor the legacy of those who served.
