JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Health Department (TCHD) is hosting two free training workshops next week relating to mental health.

TCHD is partnering with Mental Health & Recovery Services of Jackson Hole and the Community Prevention Coalition of Teton County to deliver the two training opportunities on Thursday, Feb. 26. “Taking these steps helps make our community more connected,” TCHD wrote in a Facebook post.

The first workshop will be a mental health first aid training from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is a public education initiative that strives to help people recognize, understand and respond to various signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The second workshop, Conversations on Access to Lethal Means (CALM), will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and will discuss ways to recognize and respond to suicide risk, while focusing on reducing access to lethal means, especially firearms. Participants can expect to learn how to interact with someone in a collaborative, nonjudgemental and supportive way.

Registration is required for both workshops. Contact Adam Williamson at awilliamson@mhrsjh.org to sign up for the mental health first aid session. Contact Beverly Shore at beverly.shore@wyo.gov to sign up for the CALM session. Both trainings will take place in Hansen Hall at St. John’s Episcopal Church.
