JACKSON, Wyo. — Stuck in Hoback Canyon traffic?

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is performing avalanche infrastructure maintenance along US191 between Jackson and Pinedale from milepost 147 to 163.67, scheduled to last between 9 and 10 a.m. on Monday morning. Drivers could see closures of up to 30 minutes while helicopter crews refuel and maintain the O’Bellx units in the Stinking Springs area.

O’Bellx units use explosions to trigger smaller, controlled avalanches in hopes of preventing large, uncontrolled avalanches. These units are operated remotely via computers, but they are installed and removed using a helicopter.

Roadside flaggers will conduct traffic at the scene while work is underway.
