WILSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) is investigating a bear encounter that took place in Wilson on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 9, Buckrail has confirmed.

Just before noon, an emergency page-out reported a bear encounter in the forest behind the Indian Paintbrush subdivision, off of Fall Creek Road. WGFD officials believe it was a defensive encounter over a potential food source involving a black bear, but the bear species remains unconfirmed. The page-out stated that an individual sustained minor injuries to their arm but was able to drive to the emergency room.

The agency will continue to attempt to locate and trap the bear. WGFD advises practicing bear safety in the area.

This is a developing story. Buckrail will provide further information as it becomes available.
