JACKSON, Wyo. — Vine Street is getting a major facelift.

The Vine Street Improvement Project is now underway, which will be adding sidewalks, curbs, gutters, streetlights, and new sewer and water pipes. Expect work to continue through early September. The road will be closed to through-traffic for the duration of the project, and residents’ travel routes are likely to be impacted. Occasional water shutdowns will be scheduled, each accompanied by 48 hours’ notice. Crews are expected to begin with exploratory excavation work in eight locations.

“Surprises are inevitable on utility projects; this process will help limit them,” the Town of Jackson stated in its project announcement. “Exploration will happen alongside milling the street’s surface in the project’s first week.”

The first month of work will start with the area depicted on the map below as the “Orange Zone,” from Kelly Ave. to Karns Ave., focusing on adding new sewer pipes and infrastructure moving south. After sewer installation is finished, water pipes will be installed and connected.

The “Green Zone” will be tackled in July, from Karns Ave. to Snow King Ave. Sewer pipes will be addressed first, followed by replacing water pipes and connections. After that, the “Blue Zone” is next, which is the intersection of Vine and Karns, where new water pipes will be connected to the Town of Jackson’s water distribution system.

“The alley has a web of utilities beneath it, so the Town anticipates work in this area will be slow,” the announcement states.

After the underground work is accomplished, crews will install sidewalks, curbs, gutters and streetlights. They’ll wrap things up by repaving and striping Vine Street’s surface. As ever, the schedule is subject to change due to weather.
