MOOSE, Wyo. — Friends of Pathways and Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) invite community members to help celebrate National Trails Day on Saturday, June 1.

National Trails Day is a nationwide movement for community members to give back to their local trails and provide access to the great outdoors, according to the American Hiking Society.

Community members can join Friends of Pathways staff with improving the trails on Teton Pass from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on June 1. The event is open to all and participants are to meet at Trail Creek Trailhead, located at the bottom of Old Pass Road.

Coffee and bagels will be provided before the hike, and sandwiches and snacks will be provided afterwards. People are to wear closed-toed shoes and gloves.

GTNP will celebrate National Trails Day through a morning of volunteerism focused on preserving the Phelps Lake Outlet Bridge on Saturday, June 1.

Participants can enjoy a community hike while lending a hand to maintain a Phelps Lake trail from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. Refreshments will be provided at the end of the morning hike. All ages and skills are welcome. Tools and protective equipment will be supplied by GTNP.

“We will hike approximately one mile from the Moose Wilson Road up to the Phelps Lake Outlet Bridge over Lake Creek,” GTNP Trails Program Stewardship Coordinator Angela Timby told Buckrail. “Work will be done to preserve the bridge by applying a protective layer of linseed oil and pine tar, after which we will return via the same hike.”

According to Timby, the meeting location will be accessed by entering GTNP via the Moose Wilson Road from either Teton Village or Moose, south of the Laurance S. Rockefeller Preserve Center. The group will meet at GPS coordinates 43.622555/110.786940, and signage will denote the turn.

For meeting location, details and to register, RSVP to Angela Timby at 307-739-3379 or angela_timby@nps.gov.
