JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The grizzly bear that was first spotted on May 31 with a Conibear trap affixed to its right front leg is still being actively searched for by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Previous reports of the bear still having the trap attached to its right front leg are erroneous. No photo evidence or sightings of the bear have been reported since it was first identified.
Game and Fish spokesperson Mark Gocke said, “We’ve had people up there daily for more than two weeks after we were notified. We’ve had people people flying (for other reasons) on alert to be looking for the bear. We’ve seen multiple bears up on Togwotee but none with a trap on it. I don’t know that we would recognize the bear without it. There is a reasonably good chance that bear was able to pull the trap off.”
