CHEYENNE, Wyo. — On Wednesday, March 20, Governor Mark Gordon signed a bill to create a hearing aid program for low-income adults, and a bill to provide additional resources for early childhood centers that serve children with disabilities.
According to the Governor’s Office, bill SF0057 – Wyoming adult hearing aid program allows severely hearing-impaired adults that meet income requirements to receive a pair of custom hearing aids. Senator Dan Furphy met with members of the Wyoming deaf community to create the bill.
The bill states that payment will not exceed the cost of hearing aids under the Wyoming Medical Assistance and Services Act. Hearing aid insurance will also be provided.
The Governor also signed SF0019 – Developmental preschool funding, which increased funding to help support family access to early childhood centers and preschools that serve children with disabilities. The bill modifies the per-child amounts used to calculate payments to critically needed services for children with developmental disabilities.
According to Bill SF0019, eligible children with developmental disabilities from birth through five years old, will be placed on an individualized education program or individualized family service plan through developmental preschool services starting on May 1 of the school year.
