CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon is running for a second term.
Gordon announced his candidacy in a speech in Buffalo yesterday, April 4, and in a video shared on social media.
“Wyoming and the world have been through a tough stretch these past two years, but we focused on saving both lives and livelihoods,” Gordon said in his announcement.
Gordon’s time in office has been largely defined by the pandemic and his response to it. The governor ordered a mask requirement and other health orders early on in the pandemic. Following loud pushback from conservative republicans, he lifted the order four months later and declined to issue further health orders, instead encouraging “personal responsibility” throughout the pandemic.
Gordon has also had to account for a decrease in state revenue due to a decline in oil and gas production.
He supported raising wages for state employees this past budget session.
Wyoming’s primary election is in August.
