CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon delivered a “State of the State” address in Cheyenne on Monday morning to open the current legislative session, during which he extolled the state’s economic future.

“Wyoming is open for business, constantly seeking to innovate and improve,” Gordon said. “I can proudly say, Wyoming is on a roll.”

In his remarks, Gordon noted that the state’s GDP is the highest it has ever been, and said unemployment is at its lowest since 2008. He encouraged the gathered legislators to pass his proposed budget, which emphasizes investing in the workforce, mental health resources and property tax relief.

“I am confident the task at hand, setting the budget for the next two years, is serious enough that folks will keep their attention on meeting the needs of the people of Wyoming,” Gordon said. “This is not Washington — Wyoming folks are focused on solutions, not politics.”

Gordon also took the opportunity to discuss energy production in the state, and to double down on his assertion that federal restrictions in the oil and gas sectors could harm the state’s economy.

“Wyoming is bullish on energy, all energy,” Gordon said. “Despite the misguided federal government, there is just so much energy opportunity here in Wyoming. We need to capitalize on it. Wyoming embraces an all-of-the-above energy policy because America is best powered by American energy…Wyoming demands the right to develop its resources.”
