JACKSON, Wyo. – The Jackson Giants sure took their time in pulling off an exciting come from behind win Friday night, waiting until their last licks to overtake the Green River Knights that came to town to avenge a blowout 14-0 loss to Jackson last weekend.
For seven innings it was the Ramsay Taliaferro show. The Green River starting pitcher subdued Jackson bats for 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits while striking out 8. At the plate, Taliaferro was even more of a threat, going 4 for 5 on the night with 2 doubles and 3 RBI.
With the Knights staked to 6-1 lead headed to the bottom of the 8th, things looked gloomy for the Giants. But the home team scratched away, getting to Knights reliever Kaden Wilson who struggled with control, walking one and hitting a batter. Jackson pushed across a pair of runs in the 8th to at least get within striking distance headed to the final frame.
On to the 9th where Kyle Cranston slammed the door on the Knights with a 1-2-3 top half. He would earn the eventual win for Jackson.
In Jackson’s half of the 9th, leadoff pinch hitter Xander Witt coaxed another walk out of Wilson. Parker Bleggi followed that with a line drive single to left to chase Wilson.
With Korben Serrano on the mound for the Knights, Mason Wright worked a walk to load the bases for Seth Christiansen. Christiensen leaned into an inside fastball to earn a free pass on the hit batsman and bring Witt in for the Giants’ 3rd run.
Aaron Moya struck out swinging but that still left 2 outs to work with and Connor Lang at the plate with the bases jacked. Lang delivered a bases-clearing triple down the right field line for the thrilling walk-off 7-6 win for Jackson.
The Giants improve their record to 3-3. The Knights fall to 1-4 on the season.
The Giants travel to Saratoga, Utah to take on the Bluechip North in a doubleheader scheduled for Friday afternoon. The Jackson Post 43 team will then race back home to host the Belgrade Bandits (Montana) for a double dip on Saturday night, scheduled for 5:00 and 7:30 p.m. starts.
