CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission met in Pinedale on March 12, and voted to approve the Elk Feedgrounds Management Plan.

Regional wildlife managers will now be tasked with starting the next phase of the process, developing the Feedground Management Action Plans, which will implement a long-term approach to elk management, including the 21 Game and Fish-operated elk feedgrounds in western Wyoming.

Over the past four years, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) gathered extensive public comments, leading to revisions and improvements to the final plan. The Plan is also a result of a four-year collaborative process with the National Elk Refuge, Grand Teton National Park, Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Bureau of Land Management and impacted landowners.

“The Feedground management plan provides a long-term roadmap and a suite of adaptive management options that may be utilized for each feedground,” Game and Fish Director Brian Nesvik said in the announcement. “Not all feedgrounds are the same. By sitting down with stakeholders and the public, we can identify unique obstacles and determine the appropriate combination of strategies to accomplish the overarching goals of the plan, while staying within the sideboards clearly identified in the plan.”
