UNITED STATES — Governor Mark Gordon, in accordance with a presidential proclamation, has ordered both the U.S. and State of Wyoming flags to be flown at half-staff statewide on Saturday, Dec. 7, National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, “to commemorate the patriots who were wounded and who perished on December 7, 1941.”

On this day 83 years ago, the Empire of Japan launched an air raid on the U.S. Navy base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii as well as targets in Malaya, Hong Kong, Guam, the Philippines and Wake Island. The United States entered WWII the next day.

Congress, by Public Law 103-308, as amended, designated Dec. 7 of each year as “National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.”

In this year’s proclamation, Gordon encouraged Wyomingites “to honor the great generation of Americans whose unparalleled exploits, devotion, persistence and bravery in the name of freedom have allowed our country, and many others, to prosper.”

Flags have been ordered to be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset. The order is in accordance with a proclamation from President Joe Biden.
