JACKSON, Wyo. — Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) reported no growth in the Fish Creek Fire for the second day in a row in its update on Thursday, Sept. 12. The wildland fire continues to burn across 24,904 acres in BTNF’s Jackson Ranger District, but rain and higher humidity levels resulted in “minimal fire activity yesterday,” BTNF said.
Continued stormy weather on Thursday and Friday is expected, which should also lead to minimal fire activity, BTNF said. Air quality is improving with the cold front.
“Scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue today,” BTNF’s Thursday update said. “Outflow winds from the thunderstorms can be gusty and erratic. Rainfall totals of up to 0.5 inch are predicted. A cold front will make its way through the area today, dropping the temperatures through Friday. High temperatures will be in the 40s during the day today, and freezing temperatures are possible tonight and tomorrow night. The moderating weather conditions will reduce active fire behavior.”
BTNF shared that firefighters will continue to monitor for potential threats to US26 over Togwotee Pass and nearby structures. Crews will do clean-up work along Deception Road, and work on fuel reduction along Upper Flagstaff Road.
