JACKSON, Wyo. — The Fish Creek Fire is holding steady at 24,904 acres in the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF), the same fire size BTNF has reported since Tuesday. Colder weather and precipitation have helped to stall its growth.

“The moderating weather conditions will reduce active fire behavior, however heavy fuels will continue to creep and smolder with occasional single tree torching,” BTNF noted in its update on Friday, Sept. 13. “High ground fuel moisture will greatly reduce the chances of spotting.”

Light rain and snow fell across the fire zone on Thursday, allowing “minimal fire activity,” BTNF said. The ignition of spot fires looks unlikely due to the high ground fuel moisture. BTNF said precipitation will slow down on Friday, but overcast, cool and moist conditions will continue until Sunday, when things might warm up.

Fire resources include 437 personnel, nine hand crews, 16 engines and two helicopters. Crews continue to focus on the areas around buildings and roads. Smoky driving conditions are still affecting US26 through Togwotee Pass, so BTNF encourages drivers to move slowly and cautiously.
