STAR VALLEY, WYO – Despite windy, dry weather, firefighters made good progress yesterday on the Marten Creek Fire. Most of the southern portion of the fire is now contained, as well as the northeast edge.

The fire is an estimated 6,385 acres with 30% containment. There are 340 personnel attached to the incident.
Firefighters are now concentrating their efforts on containing the northwest and north sides of the fire, and completing hand lines around the portion that extends to the east.
While most of our firefighters have concentrated on containing the fire, a small contingency team has been identifying historic structures near Cottonwood Creek, and working to protect them in case the fire moves farther in that direction.
Today will see a brief improvement in weather conditions. Humidity is still low, but northwest winds will be lighter, and there is no Red Flag Warning. These conditions should reduce fire activity, which will help firefighters as they continue to construct containment lines and extinguish hot spots.
The Marten Creek Fire is producing less smoke than it did last week, but the northwest wind may bring some smoke from the Roosevelt Fire into the Star Valley area. Be ready to take precautions if you or your family are sensitive to smoke.
