JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson Hole Fire/EMS announced via social media that stage 1 fire restrictions across Teton County, Bridger-Teton National Forest, Grand Teton National Park and the National Elk Refuge have been lifted, effective immediately.
“With recent moisture and cooler temperatures, fire risks are moderating,” Fire/EMS posted to Facebook. “Although fire restrictions in Teton County have been lifted, we urge everyone to remain vigilant while using fire outdoors. As of September 15, there have been 120 unattended campfires and 64 fire starts in the Teton Interagency Dispatch area, both numbers are significantly higher than this time last year.”
Restrictions were implemented in August amid very high fire danger. Now, fire danger has been downgraded to “high,” and fire crews on both the Dollar Lake and Willow Creek wildfires have made significant containment progress.
Fire/EMS reminds county residents that fires on private lands must be reported to the Teton County Sheriff’s dispatch at (307) 733-2331. Open burns are not permitted within Town of Jackson limits unless it’s a designated clean-up week.
Anyone lighting a recreational, agricultural or warming fire must have tools ready to fully extinguish the blaze. Fire/EMS recommends using water, a shovel and dry soil to stir, drown and repeat until the fire is cold to the touch.
As of Wednesday morning, fire restrictions are still in place for Yellowstone National Park, where fire danger remains very high.
