JACKSON, Wyo. — GAP! and TCSD are hosting a film screening and leading a community conversation, exploring the topic of increased screen time and its relationship to vaping, alcohol and drug use.
“Screenagers Under the Influence: Addressing Vaping, Drugs and Alcohol in the Digital Age,” a film by Delaney Ruston, examines how the digital age has transformed adolescence and substance use. Ruston’s film debunks myths, offers strategies for healthy choices and illustrates how young people navigate the challenges of substance use. The film addresses media influence versus science and shares teenage personal stories.
A Q&A with expert panelists, including Beth Shinder from Jackson Hole High School and two mental health professionals, follows the film screening.
“These events equip parents with the best available information so they can have difficult conversations with their kids in a way that’s empowering for parents,” GAP! Board Member Cindy Bartz said.
“We’re in this together and it’s a complicated story and I think that we both need to help our younger people learn the nurturing effects of giving each other full attention,” Sherry Turkle, PhD said.
The film and discussion is on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Jackson Hole High School auditorium.
