JACKSON, Wyo. — It is officially illegal for retailers to sell tobacco to anyone under the age of 21.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raised the minimum age from 18 to 21 for all tobacco and nicotine products, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and other vaping products.
“On December 20, 2019, the President signed legislation to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, and raise the federal minimum age of sale of tobacco products from 18 to 21 years,” the FDA says in a statement on its website.
The federal law is effective immediately and applies to all states.
