WYOMING – The Wyoming Republican Party harshly denounced an incident still under investigation by the FBI at its Albany County headquarters in Laramie last week.
State GOP officials condemned the forced entry and vandalism that took place last week at the Albany County Republican Party office, calling the incident “forceful and malicious damage” that is “extensive and intentional.”
“We applaud the Federal Bureau of Investigation for getting involved in the investigation of this erroneous crime. Furthermore, after learning the space above the office is an occupied residence, the felony arson must be deemed as an incredibly dangerous and potentially lethal act,” party leaders stated in a release. “The crime scene also shows strong evidence of being politically motivated. Patriotic items such as our United States flag and other symbols of freedom near and dear to our Republic were damaged or destroyed.”
The Wyoming Republican Party added it seeks “full prosecution of the individual or individuals responsible for this attack and views this act as one of desperation by extremists illegally expressing their opposition.”
Officials with the Albany County and State Democratic Party also denounced the action as despicable and having no place in Wyoming politics.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning, September 6. Days earlier, a campaign sign for Liz Cheney was defaced.
