JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Fair Board continues to bring interesting acts across the spectrum of the ever-confusing genre known as ‘country.’ This year’s lineup delivers a trending star in Morgan Wade alongside a veteran roots-country troubadour in Corb Lund and an up-and-coming, unapologetic singer-songwriter Kat Hasty.
Wade’s initial appearance in the independent country scene was enthusiastic towards filling the void of women at the top of the insurgence of male counterparts like Tyler Childers. The Appalachian upbringing helped draw those comparisons, as did the earnest acoustic songs she grew up playing. Those expectations shifted with the release of her debut album, Reckless (2021), with rock and pop moments sharing the sonic field alongside the elements of independent country. Now, as a major label, headlining artist with a forthcoming sophomore album dropping on August 25, Psychopath (produced by Sadler Vaden, best known as the guitarist in Jason’s Isbell’s 400 Unit), Wade continues to wear her heart on her sleeve and deliver a confident but weathered voice with a hint of Southern flavor.
The middle act, Canadian Corb Lund, is a veteran of the roots-country/alt-country scene, first establishing himself with 2002’s Five Dollar Bill. Lund has toured relentlessly at times and released eleven albums, three of which are certified gold. His most recent album, Songs My Friends Wrote, was released in 2022 by Warner Music and features songs penned by colleagues like Todd Snyder, Ian Tyson, and Hayes Carll.
Opening act Kat Hasty has been singing and writing music before she knew how to put words on paper. Growing up in west Texas, her upbringing pours through her songwriting in tales of desert highways and the hustle and bustle of oil towns. Hasty made her musical debut with her two-part EP Drowning in Dreams, which is described as real, raw and unapologetic.
