Leaders of environmental action, these businesses decided in 2019 to switch electric business operations to 100% Green Power to preserve Jackson’s environment, economy, and community as stewards of natural resources in the community.
“The more of us who choose to participate in Green Power means that Lower Valley is purchasing more renewable certified electricity,” Program Manager at Energy Conservation Works Megan Jennings said. “You can have a direct influence on what kind of power our community uses – renters, homeowners, businesses, nonprofits – all of us have the option to choose local and regional Renewable Certified Energy sources.”

The Green Power Program is a joint program between Energy Conservation Works and LVE, which allows customers to purchase Renewable Energy Certified electricity. Since the partnership began in 2017, Green Power sales have doubled. The program is open to both commercial and residential LVE customers (renters and homeowners). Horse Butte Wind Farm (outside of Idaho Falls), and the Pleasant Valley Wind Farm (outside of Evanston, WY) are the primary sources of Green Power for LVE.
“We are proud as the local energy provider to offer this green alternative option to our members,” LVE Amy Walton said. “We are grateful for everyone who has participated in the program.”

At Lower Valley’s affordable electricity rates, the community has the opportunity to support renewable energy at some of the cheapest electricity prices in the U.S. LVE’s Green Power Program is one cent more per kWh, at five to six cents per kWh. The national average is 12 cents per generic electric rate. When a customer participates in the Green Power program, LVE purchases electricity from Renewable Energy Certified facilities.
Green Power is paid for by an extra monthly premium, which shows up on customer bills in addition to regular monthly charges. The Green Power Rate is an additional $0.01 per kWh or a 20% rate increase. For a typical household, this is an average increase of $20 per month. If utilities are paid by a landlord or property management group, this information is needed to update the account.

Businesses, homeowners and renters play a key role in shaping Teton County’s energy future, and can influence neighbors, friends, locals and visitors. Over 1,000 homes and 125 businesses are already in the Green Power Program. By choosing Green Power, the community can support the development of renewable energy sources, which can reduce environmental impacts and the burning of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. Choosing renewable power also reduces impact on water sources, air, wildlife and the surrounding environment.

All homes (renters included!) and businesses in Teton and Lincoln County are eligible to switch their electricity to 100% Green Power.
