JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Mothers past and present were honored today through the annual Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Mother’s Day ritual at the Senior Center of Jackson Hole. This annual ritual is performed by Elks Lodges across the United States to show appreciation for mothers and to honor the memory of mothers that have passed on. This is the 32nd year that Jackson Elks Lodge No. 1713 has performed this ritual and served a delicious brunch to area mothers and their families.
“This is a ceremony I personally looked forward to conducting after being elected,” said Lisa Sprague, Exalted Ruler of Jackson Elks Lodge No. 1713. “It is quite moving to see so many people in the community come together to honor their mothers.”.
This year, the Jackson Elks served over 150 meals to mothers, their families, and guests. Donnie Rodgers, Elk member and head chef, directed the preparation of a menu of scrambled eggs, the Jackson Hole Cow Belle’s famous cheesy potatoes, asparagus hollandaise, medallions of tenderloin beef, apple cobbler a la mode, and of course mimosas.
“I like coming up with a menu that makes the mothers feel special and shows that we appreciate them,” Rodgers said.
More than 20 Elks members and their friends volunteered to prepare and serve brunch for the Mother’s Day ritual.
Sprague said, “Even when you can’t spend this day with your own mother, as an Elk you can make it a special day for someone else’s. Volunteering for the Mother’s Day ritual helps us show that motherhood is something important that we need to take a moment to recognize.”
