ALTA, Wyo. — A Red Flag Warning has been issued for all of southeastern Idaho and for a sliver of western Wyoming, meaning that critical fire weather conditions are expected for Tuesday, July 15.

The warning was issued by the National Weather Service’s office in Pocatello and will be in effect from noon to 9 p.m. The affected area extends down into western Utah and eastern Nevada.

According to the weather service, the fire conditions come from a combination of low relative humidity (as low as 15 to 25%), gusty outflow winds (up to 25 or 30 mph) and the potential for scattered thunderstorms with frequent lightning. Lightning strikes could spark fires, and wind gusts would spread those fires rapidly.

Fire danger in the greater Jackson area remains high.
