Democrat shindig this weekend sells out fast, training sessions full Julián Castro United States Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

WYOMINGWyoming Democrats will gather in force this weekend in Cheyenne to celebrate the state’s first woman governor and to train candidates and campaign workers to win elections.

The main event is a tradition. The Nellie Tayloe Ross Dinner draws Wyo Dems from across the state. Ross was Wyoming’s first and only woman governor. The event is a major annual fundraiser. The dinner drew about 125 attendees in recent years but this year it sold out two weeks ago at 200, which is the capacity of the ballroom at the historic Plains Hotel.

This year’s keynote speaker is former Obama Cabinet member and San Antonio, TX, Mayor Julian Castro. Castro is thought to be a likely presidential candidate in 2020.

The weekend will also feature a slate of exciting Wyoming Democratic candidates who will be on hand. US Senate hopeful Gary Trauner, Mary Throne who is running for Governor, Secretary of State candidate Jim Byrd, and potential Auditor Jeff Dockter all plan to be in attendance, as well as other Democrats mulling a run.

The dinner will be preceded Saturday by a full day of training for candidates and campaign workers at LCCC. The training is provided free of charge by the National Democrat Training Committee. Thus far, about 80 have RSVP’d for the event.

On Sunday, the weekend ends with the Wyoming State Central Committee conducting business. Activities are slated to end by noon.
