DANIEL, Wyo. — On Saturday, May 25, a motorcycle rally that was organized to protest the alleged torture and killing of a wolf in Daniel, remained peaceful, although local residents continue to receive an alarming amount of death threats.
According to Sergeant Travis Bingham from the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, national outrage has incited death threats toward local Daniel community members that have no relation to the wolf incident. Bingham said that people from all over the country are looking up residents, trying to find or create a connection to the wolf incident, and sending them death threats. Bingham told Buckrail that some of the recent threats include one directed toward a minor and a musician who performed at the Green River Bar in Daniel only once.
During Saturday’s motorcycle rally, the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene to ensure public safety.
“We were there to keep the peace and to keep traffic moving,” Bingham said.
According to Bingham, the Hogs for Hope caravan arrived shortly after 11 a.m., gathered to give a speech, exchanged money for wildlife protection groups and went on their way north towards Jackson. There were was no conflict, other than an exchange of heated words. Hogs for Hope was a rally and fundraiser organized in response to the Daniel wolf incident.
Daniel is known as a small, quiet cattle and horse ranching community with approximately 210 residents, and the Sheriff’s Office condemns people threatening violence in retribution towards local community members.
The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the wolf entrapment incident, as well as all the on-going death threats coming in on a daily basis.
“Threats of violence … endanger the lives and the peace of the residents of Sublette County, State and County employees and innocent people outside Sublette County not at all involved in the situation,” Bingham told Buckrail.
