Dancers’ Workshop will get ‘Up Close’ with contemporary dance program Dancers' Workshop Buckrail Buckrail - Jackson Hole, news

JACKSON HOLE, WYO – The resident professional modern dance company of Dancers’ Workshop will present “Up Close” next month. It will be an opportunity to see performers at close range. The local pro troupe is headed by artistic director Babs Case.

Shows are designed to provide an evening-length performance of intense physicality, humor and poignant choreography. Contemporary Dance Wyoming (CDW) offers dance experiences uniquely born of Jackson Hole, blending the best of the dance world today with the essence of living and creating in this place.

“Up Close” will provide audiences with a more intimate experience with the dancers. This summer’s annual performance explores the convergence of dance, theatre, spoken word, live music and other art forms. The work examines themes including beauty, vulnerability, love or lack thereof, and society’s expectations of us as human.

“Up Close” is directed by Case, with rehearsal director Francesca Romo, in collaboration with the dancers. The work will be accompanied with live music by local musicians Leif Routman and Shawn Fleming.

There are four chances to get Up Close this June. Performances are scheduled for Friday, June 15 at 6pm and 8pm; and Saturday, June 16 at 6pm and 8pm.

With year-round rehearsals and informal showings, summer is when Contemporary Dance Wyoming has their chance to shine for their own community. Join Company members Michaela Ellingson, Kate Kosharek, Marissa Moeri, Francesca Romo and Luke Zender for an unexpected evening.

As the choreographers and dancers continue to prepare for their performances, there will be a free open rehearsal on Friday, June 1 from 5-6pm in Dancers’ Workshop Studio 1 ($10 suggested donation). This is a great opportunity to get a glimpse into the creation process of the work that will debut at “Up Close.”
