JACKSON, Wyo. — “Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest one of all?” Join Snow White and the seven dwarfs as they dance through the forest to escape the Evil Queen. This classic story comes alive as The School at Dancers’ Workshop presents this year’s winter production, Fairest of Them All, on Dec. 13, 14 and 15 at The Center Theater.
A holiday tradition for our community, the winter production delights local families and audiences with the whimsy of fairy tales, colorful costumes and sets and the dedication of both professional dancers and over 100 students. The show serves as a culmination of the Fall Semester: a demonstration of the students’ practice and hard work and a celebration of the graduating seniors.
The School provides creative movement and formal dance instruction for youth ages 18 months to 18 years, including the Junior Repertory Company (JRC), Dancers’ Workshop’s pre-professional dance training program for middle and high school students. Each week, they offer 50 classes based on a progressive curriculum in ballet and modern technique, as well as hip hop and jazz. The faculty is composed of professional dancers and movement experts who together provide a wide background in the field and share a deep passion for their expertises.
“The winter production is an incredible experience for both teachers and students,” said Michaela Ellingson, JRC Director and Contemporary Dance Wyoming company member. “We watch these young dancers grow into true artists, and seeing such a large and diverse cast working together each year is inspiring and uplifting. I think that is what makes the winter production so cherished in our community. The joy and pride we have radiates from the stage and throughout the audience.”
This community performance will include members of Contemporary Dance Wyoming, DW’s resident company. Students will have the unique opportunity to share the stage with local professional dancers.
Fantastic opportunities for local youth like these aren’t possible without the love and generosity of supporters. Dancers’ Workshop relies on donors to help produce this show each year, with expenses for theater rental, lighting, costumes and sets nearing $100,000. This is more than just a theatrical production; it creates an opportunity for over 100 students to develop skills in teamwork, discipline and self-expression through the performing arts. Please consider a gift of any size to help these passionate students continue to explore their love of dance.
Fairest of Them All will open on the main stage at The Center Theater (240 S. Glenwood Ave.) in downtown Jackson at 7 p.m. on the evening of Friday, Dec. 13.
