Malpaso (Rose Eichenbaum)

JACKSON HOLE, WYO — Dancers’ Workshop and Artistic Director Babs Case continues to bring the world to Jackson with a second international collaboration this spring. Malpaso Dance Company is one of the most sought-after Cuban dance companies in the world. the troupe will be in creative residence at Dancers’ Workshop March 21-26. Creative residencies offer guest artists the time and space away from their usual environment, providing the time to reflect, research and create new work.

Malpaso attracts both world-renowned choreographers and emerging voices in Cuban choreography. While in creative residence this week, Malpaso will be working with prominent Canadian choreographer Aszure Barton on new work. Each time DW brings a guest artist to the community, the focus is to create as many pathways of access to the artist as possible. These often including open rehearsals, master classes and local outreach opportunities. This first residency will include a free public open rehearsal and school outreach in the community’s dual-immersion elementary school, Munger Mountain Elementary School.

The community is invited to a free public open rehearsal on Saturday, March 23 at 5:00pm in Dancers’ Workshop Studio 1 (located on the 2nd floor of the Center for the Arts). The audience will be invited into the creative process and see what Malpaso has been working on all week with Aszure Barton in the DW studios.

Dancers’ Workshop will bring Malpaso back to Jackson Hole this July for two performances, for its DW Gala Benefit on Thursday, July 18 and a second performance-only on Saturday, July 20.
